First question on every roach job: which roach? Because in the East Valley there are really two different problems wearing the same disguise, and they need two different fixes.

If you're seeing small, fast roaches in the kitchen — behind the fridge, under the sink, in cabinet hinges — that's the German cockroach, and it's an infestation, not a visitor. German roaches breed indoors at a brutal pace: one egg case carries dozens of nymphs, and generations stack up in weeks. If you're seeing big roaches near drains, bathrooms, or the garage, that's the American cockroach — what everyone in Phoenix calls a sewer roach — wandering up from the municipal sewer and slab plumbing, especially in summer.

NEARPEST runs a different program for each, because foggers and perimeter sprays alone fix neither. We're licensed by the Arizona Office of Pest Management, and we'll tell you straight which problem you have.

What we do

German roach program

Gel baits placed in the cracks and hinges where they actually live, plus an insect growth regulator that stops nymphs from ever breeding. The population collapses instead of rebounding.

Sewer roach defense

Perimeter treatment, drain and clean-out treatment, and entry-point sealing advice — because American roaches come from the sewer system, not from a nest in your pantry.

Honest diagnosis

We identify the species on the initial visit and tell you exactly what you're dealing with and how long it will take. No scare tactics.

Free re-service

Still seeing activity between scheduled visits? We come back at no charge, on every plan.

German roaches: why foggers fail and baiting wins

German cockroaches live their whole lives within a few feet of food and water, packed into cracks a credit card couldn't slide into. Foggers don't reach them — they just scatter survivors into new harborage. Meanwhile the egg cases keep hatching, and a kitchen can go from a few sightings to hundreds of roaches in a month.

Our program puts gel bait directly into their harborage zones, where feeding is unavoidable, and pairs it with an insect growth regulator — an IGR — that keeps the nymphs that do hatch from maturing into breeders. Bait removes the current generation; the IGR cancels the next one.

Expect visible progress within days and full knockdown over a few weeks of follow-up. German roach jobs are won with placement and persistence, and we bring both.

Sewer roaches: stopping what the plumbing sends up

American cockroaches thrive in the sewer mains and storm drains under every East Valley street, and summer heat pushes them upward — through drains, expansion joints, weep holes, and gaps around plumbing penetrations. Killing the one in your bathroom doesn't address the supply line behind it.

We treat the perimeter, the garage, block wall lines, and drain access points, and we'll show you the entry gaps worth sealing — door sweeps and pipe penetrations stop a surprising amount of traffic. Ongoing quarterly or bi-monthly service keeps the barrier live through the hot months when pressure peaks.

Start with the $99 initial visit. Call (480) 555-0199 and tell us what you're seeing — kitchen or drains — and we'll bring the right program.

Questions, answered

What's the difference between German and sewer roaches?

German roaches are small, breed indoors, and signal a true infestation centered on your kitchen or bathroom. Sewer roaches — American cockroaches — are the big ones that wander in from the sewer and slab plumbing. Different sources, different treatments.

Does seeing roaches mean my house is dirty?

No. Sewer roaches come up from municipal plumbing into spotless homes all over the Valley, and German roaches usually arrive hidden in a box, a bag, or a used appliance. Sanitation helps treatment work faster, but it isn't the cause.

Why shouldn't I just use a fogger?

Foggers rarely penetrate the cracks where German roaches actually live — they scatter the colony deeper into walls and cabinets, which makes professional baiting slower. Skip the fogger and start with bait placement done right.

How long until the roaches are gone?

Sewer roach pressure drops quickly once the perimeter and drains are treated. German roach infestations typically collapse over two to four weeks as bait and IGR work through the breeding cycle. We re-service free between visits if anything lingers.
