Your attic is the one part of your home that's both a pest highway and a money leak — and TAP is the rare upgrade that fixes both at once. TAP stands for Thermal Acoustical Pest control: cellulose insulation treated with borates, blown in over your existing insulation or installed fresh after a cleanout.
The pest control part is built into the material. Insects that move through the insulation pick up borate dust, and because ants, cockroaches, termites, and other self-grooming insects clean themselves constantly, they ingest it — and borates are lethal to them at doses that are low-risk for people and pets. The insulation itself becomes a permanent treated zone in the one space your quarterly service can't easily reach. We'll be straight with you: it works on self-grooming insects, so it's a layer of protection, not a replacement for whole-home pest control.
The money part is very Arizona. When it's 115 outside, your attic can run far hotter, and thin or compacted insulation lets that heat pour into your living space while your AC fights back all afternoon. TAP adds real R-value, which means a cooler house, a less desperate air conditioner, and lower summer electric bills — savings that compound every single summer. It densifies sound too, which is why "Acoustical" is in the name: street noise drops noticeably in most homes.
What we do
Pesticide where you can't spray
Borate-treated cellulose turns the whole attic into a treated zone that kills self-grooming insects on contact and ingestion — permanently, with no re-application.
Lower cooling bills
Added R-value blunts attic heat before it reaches your living space. In the East Valley, that's the difference your July electric bill can feel.
A quieter house
Dense cellulose absorbs sound that fiberglass lets through. Aircraft, traffic, and neighborhood noise all drop a notch.
Attic restoration after rodents
If rodents contaminated your attic, we remove soiled insulation, sanitize, seal entry points, and install fresh TAP — turning a biohazard back into an asset.
How borate-treated insulation kills attic pests
Borates are a mineral-based insecticide with a long track record: low toxicity profile for people and pets at the concentrations used, lethal to insects that ingest them. TAP cellulose is infused with borates throughout, so any ant, roach, silverfish, or termite traveling through the insulation gets coated in treated dust.
Self-grooming is the kill mechanism. Insects compulsively clean their legs and antennae, swallowing the borate as they do, and it shuts down their systems from the inside. There's no bait to refill and no treatment to renew — the material is the treatment for the life of the insulation.
The honest limits: it controls the insects that groom themselves and live in or cross the insulation. Scorpions and rodents aren't poisoned by it, which is why TAP pairs with — rather than replaces — our scorpion and rodent services. Done together, you close the attic as a pest harborage entirely.
The energy math, and fixing rodent-damaged attics
Insulation performance is measured in R-value, and most East Valley attics are running below what the desert demands — especially older homes where insulation has compacted or was thin from day one. Blowing TAP over existing insulation raises R-value immediately, and because cellulose installs at a higher density than loose fiberglass, it also resists the air movement that robs fiberglass of performance.
The payoff shows up where Arizona homeowners feel it most: the summer electric bill. A properly insulated attic means the AC cycles less to hold the same temperature, rooms under the attic stop running hot, and the system itself lives longer for working less.
If rodents have been in your attic, the insulation is the crime scene — urine, droppings, tunnels, and nesting ruin both its hygiene and its R-value. Our attic restoration removes contaminated material, sanitizes the space, seals the entry points, and installs fresh TAP, so you finish with a cleaner, better-insulated, pest-hostile attic than you started with. Questions, answered
Is TAP insulation safe for my family and pets?
Yes. The borates in TAP are mineral-based, used at concentrations with a low toxicity profile for people and pets, and the insulation stays in the attic — not in your living space. It's the insects that groom and ingest it that pay the price.
Does TAP replace my regular pest control?
No, and we won't pretend it does. TAP creates a permanent treated zone in the attic against self-grooming insects like ants, roaches, and termites. Scorpions and rodents need their own programs — TAP is a strong layer, not the whole defense.
Can TAP go over my existing insulation?
Usually, yes — it's designed to cap existing insulation and raise total R-value in one visit. The exception is contaminated or rodent-damaged insulation, which should come out first as part of an attic restoration.
Will I actually see lower energy bills?
Added R-value reduces the heat load your AC fights all summer, and in Arizona that's the biggest line on your electric bill. Exact savings depend on your starting insulation, home, and habits — we'll assess your attic's current R-value honestly before quoting.
